Monday Motivation- Move your mass

For the past two weeks the word that has been occupying my mind is “transition”. Maybe because I am going through so much of that myself lately.

I don’t know about you, but I have had many times in my life when I navigated big and small transitions. Some were easy, others painful.

In behavior change theory, we transition between phases for wellness. The stages that are the most important for our long-term health are contemplation to preparation and then to the action phase.

We transition from thinking about it - to doing it. It is the single most critical step to success in any area of our lives. The most important and the hardest.

You know why?

Because you have to move your mass.

Whatever the barrier, there is usually an obstacle we must overcome to move forward when making changes for our overall well-being.

I’m going to be honest - All transition in this life isn’t easy or positive. Some of that mass to break apart and shove aside is hard stuff. Mindsets that have been covered and embedded over years with excuses.

This is the most difficult, yet most crucial, step for our lasting well-being -

To move the mass that’s holding us back.

We might not understand or embrace it when it’s happening, but it is necessary for permanent, long-term growth.

We can't transition from one phase to another without this process.

In order to go from a contemplative "want to" to an active "doing it", we first must realize, accept, address, then move aside the obstacles blocking our way.

Look, this ‘mass’ could be physical, mental, emotional, a work/family relationship, difficult commitments, or hard habits we might not want to admit to.

The barriers could be fair or unfair circumstances – It doesn’t matter.

The point is – the boulder is there and it’s up to us to move it.

So, we must be brutally honest with ourselves about what those are and the appropriate steps in order to move the roadblocks.

Take time this week to ask yourself: What are the barriers keeping you from transitioning from contemplation to action? To consistent healthy behaviors? This is where outside counsel really helps. If you need that - seek it.

Get the perspective from someone not mired in your difficulty to help you clear the road to greater health.

Thank you for your continued support - Let's go move our masses this week!
